Royal Awards Foundation - Awards for Sustainability (previously The Princes’ Award ) was initiated in 1996. The purpose af the award is to increase public awareness of important European environmental issues, and to promote public participation in the move towards sustainable development.

The idea behind the award is to use the most powerful media available - television, film, video, CD- Rom and the internet to inform European citizens of environmental issues. It is presented each year to three media producers in the following categories:

• Documentary
• Fiction
• Multimedia
